About the Artist

She lives in a world of her own is a statement that is often used to describe me, and it is true. From a young age I would spin tales and tell stories of marvelous worlds that had not been touched by the ordinary fingers of reality. Navigating my own world became a complication when I spent more time there than in my studies. I was branded as a prob- lem child and was forced to leave the land I had created for myself through means of medication. I stopped drawing, I stopped reading, and most of all I stopped creating.

Many years later, in my late teens I discovered a television show called Gravity Falls. I became obsessed. I wanted to know everything about this fictional world, and I found myself following the show’s creator, Alex Hirsch, obsessivly. I found his college art portfolio, test animations he had done, and transcripts of scenes that the producers would not allow into the children’s show. Fighting censorship was something that Alex Hirsh faced on a weekly basis in the creation of his show, and censorship is an aspect that I have been fighting a long time as well, in art and literature. Hirsch created complicated worlds and characters through his art and fought for his right to create the media that he envisioned. That is worth admiring. That is when I redicovered my desire to create and constantly question the world around me.

One single artist cannot be named for the passion behind my print design. My focus, print design, is an amalgamation of many different techniques that I have learned through the years. I like to implement photography and illustration into my print design as seen in Hard Candy and Fort Worth, as I enjoy all aspects of the graphic arts. Sally Mann is a large inspiration of my digital photography, although we do not work in the same medium. Most of all I aim for my audience to ask questions, and explore their own outlook on reality and why the world works the way it does, because in the end we create our own reality.
